In November 2011 I wrote a Mobile Money Brief on the United States of America for the Clarion MMT Gateway. What we observed in 2011 was like the awakening of a sleeping giant.
Some of the key observations then were that:
- 2011 has seen a revival of interest in NFC and local retail mobile payments – how soon will we see adoption?
- Will the banks convince the public there is no need for “another account”?
- From associations to JVs to open ecosystems – what will generate maximum traction?
- How will brands be built or broken by the use of personal data?
Over the next few months I expect to post updates on the Digital Money scene in the USA and how technologies are being employed to provide better services, especially where they are most needed.
