In January 2012 I wrote a Mobile Money Brief on Singapore for the Clarion MMT Gateway. Awards had recently been announced regarding the call for collaboration on NFC.
Some of the key observations I made then then were that:
- The Singapore Government recently pledged 20,000 retail points and taxis are to accept mobile payment from mid-2012
- Singapore is the first country to go ahead with central Trusted Third Party (TTP) for country-wide collaborative, interoperable mobile NFC
- They have a good start, with early innovation and visionary regulation and E-money allowed since 2000
Over the next few months I expect to post updates on the Mobile Money scene in Singapore, and talk about the some of the initiatives as they unfold.
