Easypaisa is the first branchless banking service launched in Pakistan by Tameer Microfinance Bank and Telenor Pakistan. Branchless banking accounts are offered to Telenor subscribers, while Bill Payment and money transfer are available to all.

Consumer fees for DMT are Slab based. IMT only receive supported and is free to the receiver.

ROLES: Telenor acts as a distribution arm for branchless banking. Anything which relates to demand liabilities rests with the bank. Channel management, retail set-up, technology and call centre are managed by Telenor. Concept development is done in partnership, but Telenor takes the lead on marketing. Tameer is responsible for operating accounts, creating ledgers, reconciliation, fund settlement, fund settlement with external parties, risk and compliance, and fraud investigations.

M1: Under the State Bank of Pakistan mobile banking regulations regulations, only bank-led model is allowed and the ownership of all m-wallet account is with the bank. In this regard, Telenor Pakistan acquired 51% ownership in Tameer Microfinance Bank. Tameer Bank has the regulatory license to do the mobile banking business in the country and the transaction types include money transfers, cash in / cash out, bill payments, merchant payment, international remittances. In addition, Tameer Bank also has a separate license from State Bank of Pakistan to do inward international remittances business based on agent network.

As of August 2012 they have 15000+ agents for money transfer/bill payment, of which 1300+ can do account setup.

This number has steadily grown from around 5600 in 2010, although not as fast as they initially predicted. They originally planned to have 20,000 by Feb 2010.

These agents are usually selected from the Telenor topup agents, numbering around 180,000. This includes diverse businesses such as grocery stores, medical stores, book stores, SINGER and more.

Registrations for a Mobile Account can be done from any Telenor Franchise, Telenor Sales & Service Center, Tameer Bank and Tameer Sales & Service Center and Telenor Sahulat Ghar. As of August 2012, they claim to have more than 16,000+ easypaisa shops located across Pakistan.

Requires a valid Nadra CNIC as identification for money transfer.
